What do you suppose is one advantage and what do you suppose is one disadvantage to an inflected language such as Latin?
One advantage I suppose would be that you get to figure out new ways of translating, so its a bit like a puzzle. One disadvantage would be that it gets a bit confusing, especially when you've only had a few classes ;)
ReplyDeleteone advantage is that it makes it easier to learn other romance language. a disadvantage is that when speaking another romance language, you may get confused
ReplyDeletean advantage is that it is the base of many languages so it can help you learn other languages. One disadvantage is the fact that unlike spanish and french it is not frenquently used so you may not apply it quite as much

ReplyDeleteAn advantage to takeing latin is that because it is the base to the romance languages, it will help me in spanish!( might also help in science) A disadvanage to having latin is that its not a languege spoken in daily life, so i wont have much of a need to speek it outside of school.
ReplyDeleteAn advantage is that it is the root of the romance languages, but it has many forms of the words(there are 360 forms for each verb and 15 types of each noun)
ReplyDeleteLearning Latin is an advantage because it is the base in the romance languages, so learning it helps if you want to learn other languages because of the sentence structure. A disadvantage is that Latin is a dead language, it is not used anywhere, so you wouldn't get to speak it in everyday life.
ReplyDeleteAn advantage would be that it will help you learn the other romance languages. A disadvantage would be that it is harder to learn than less inflected languages because each verb form carries a number, person and tense and the nouns carry a number and gender.
ReplyDeleteLearning latin is an advantage to us and other people because it's connected to other languages [the romance languages]which can help in the future when we need to speak other languages to communicate with others. It's a disadvantage because although it's useful to help with other languages, it's a dead language and it's not a language that you naturally think of when someone says "foreign language."
ReplyDeleteOne advantage of learning an inflected language such as Latin is when translating you know that you are looking for a certain order so it helps to understand what it will say in the end. But also in terms of just in general Latin helps in everyday life, even if you think it doesn't. One disadvantage is you have to get your mind thinking the way roman's think. You have to stop and actually take time to concentrate about what is in front of you, it doesn't come easy.
ReplyDeleteOne advantage of knowing Latin is that it can help you learn alot of other languages. One disadvantage of knowing Latin is that you'll never walk up to someone and start speaking Latin; so as for knowing it fluently, Latin isn't a language you can communicate with.
ReplyDeleteOne advantage is that the language doesn't change so once you learn it you know it forever. One disadvantage is that the language can't be updated, so some of it might become outdated. Also, since nobody speaks Latin you cannot communicate using Latin.
ReplyDeleteone advantage is that you can read old writting but a disadvantage is that no one speaks it anymore
ReplyDeleteOne advantage of learning Latin is that it helps with other romance languages. However a disadvantage is that nobody speaks or communicates using Latin.-Jake Conley
ReplyDeleteOne advantage to learning Latin is that you can use Latin to discover meanings of various words in the English language. For istance, "ped" (I believe) means foot, and words like "pedestrian" and "pedicure" are from that root. A disadvantage is that Latin is a dead language, and it is barely spoken in the world today.
ReplyDeleteOne advantage to learning Latin is that Latin words are the root words in many other languages, so learning Latin can help you understand words in other languages better. One disadvantage to learning Latin is that Latin is a dead language, so you cannot speak what you learn, you have to use what you learn in Latin and apply it to other languages.
ReplyDeleteOne advantage to knowing latin is it will help you if you try to learn other lauguages, and one disadvantage is no one really speaks latin so it can't be used for comunication.

ReplyDeleteWell an advantage at knowing the language of Latin is that it will help you in understanding other languages because it is the romance to all languages. Yet, one disadvantage is that there aren't many times and places to use Latin, since it is a "dead language."
ReplyDeleteOne advantage to taking latin is that it can making learning other languages easier to learn because most of the routes of the words originate from latin. One disadvantage would be that latin is not spoken very often and very few people know how to speak it so it can't be used as much as a language like french or spanish/

ReplyDeleteone advantage of taking latin is that it is the base of most languages and you can learn other languages. one disadvantage is that its hard to learn it fluently because no one speaks it as a main language.

ReplyDeleteOne advantage is being able to understand the base words of most English words. One disadvantage is that this language unlike others is dead and can't be used to fluently speak.
ReplyDeleteOne advantage of knowing the language is that it will help you to learn a lot of other languages. One disadvantage is since it's technecly a dead language finding someone who fluently speaks latin is very hard. Therefore the hance to practice speaking it would come very rarely.
ReplyDeleteone advantage of knowing the latin language is it would be useful to you if you wanted to learn another language because latin is used in some form or way in many languages today.a of disadvantage is that only a handful of people in the world know it. so you wouldnt use it in your daily life.

ReplyDeleteOne advantage would be that learning latin teaches us skills we can use to understand other languages such as spanish and english better. A disadvantage would be that since we are taking 2 languages this year it may be a little confusing at first.
ReplyDeleteone advantage is if you are going into a scientific career it makes learning scientific words easier.
ReplyDeleteone disadvantage is that you cannot outwardly translate it because there arent any articles; its all conjugated.
One advantage is that Latin is the base of many languages. So if you try to learn one main language, and you already know Latin, than it would be easier to understand it. One disadvantage is that not many people speak Latin today, even though it is taught in some schools.
ReplyDeleteOne advantage to learning latin is that it will help your English, as well as other languages if you chose to learn more. One disadvantage is that latin is a dead language and you would probably not need to be speaking it in your every day life.
ReplyDeleteOne advantage of an inflected language is that the inflections clarify other parts of the sentence without extra words. The disadvantage is that if a few letters are skipped you loose what might be a very important part of the sentence.
ReplyDeleteThe advantage is that we can get a lot more straight forward answers and it is easier to understand differnet words, but the disadvantage is that we cannot remember all of the ways to make a single word without years and years of practice.
